From Burnley to Bath—photographs, interviews and the shopping habits of British consumers—a snapshot at the Millennium. A three-month Local Info project commissioned by William Baird for Marks and Spencer. UK1299 toured four regions of the UK and interviewed and photographed British families, researched by Peter Redpath from the Bairds customer database.
"...the qualitative aspect of the project has enormous potential to influence the direction of a customer-oriented company through product, services and marketing. It highlights comparative and directional brands, the power of advertising, how much of a priority clothes are in people's lives and the functions that those clothes perform...indeed, body language aside, the full unexpurgated taped interviews are a veritable goldmine that catalogues very intimate details of desire, hope, disappointment and regret..."
