The Hackney Empire in London’s East End is the spiritual home of the unique Grand Union Orchestra and the location of some of their most sublime musical moments. In the multicultural East End, the Orchestra fuses musical aspects of Asia, Africa, Central and South America. Leader and Composer is Tony Haynes, whose writing and music over the years has coalesced around themes and legacies of post-European Colonialism, exploring and describing how indigenous musical forms are changed through the movement of populations, whether enforced through slavery or by economic migration.
